Our Story

FOR EVERYONE

Mbizi Game Reserve & Lodges is a privately owned establishment spanning over 1 000 km2. A place that has been termed as a "...haven of peace and tranquility..." Mbizi was built by the hard working couple of Mervyn & Barbara Senior in 1991. The couple managed to turn a one-time old farm into a marvelous lodging house surrounded by pure wilderness.

The name "Mbizi" is the shona translation for Zebra in English. The name Mbizi brings about a sense of ethnic beauty and grace to the Park. The buildings have a grass thatch on the roof and have been furnished with original railway sleeper on the inside. The exquisite furnishings are made with local teak of particular interest is the five meter long dining table in the guest's dining room of the main lodge. Mbizi also has bush cottages that are self catering, and are away from the main lodge area.

Mbizi also has game drives and other outdoor activities. These include boat cruises, fishing, and of particular interest is the new "KENGE" Team Building Course. To find out more click on Activites

GAME VIEWING

Undoubtedly one of the most exciting activities under the African sun. There is simply nothing better than spending the day in the bush and in touch with nature's best. Mbizi provides the best wildlife sanctuary within reach of the city but still natural and untouched as it has always been for centuries. The game park boasts of zebra, giraffe, impala, eland, and kudu. One can explore the game reserve either by 4x4, or simply take a stroll on foot. All tours, however, are to be taken in the presence of a trained guide.

FISHING

"GOOD THINGS COME TO HOE WHO BAIT"

If you enjoy a lazy day of fishing, the Manyame and Ruwa Rivers which surround the game park are said to have the best reputation for the best bass fishing in the country. The rivers have large amounts of bass, carp, bream and babel fish. There is nothing like a good traditional Zimbabwean Braai (barbeque) to make the perfect fishing trip. That is why the fishing areas have been graced with picnic spots complete with braai areas.
